If Too Much Sleep Is not Enough - How to Treat Hypersomnia

Why is sleep included on the list of the most important things to do every day? If you are like most people today, you put sleep to the bottom of the list. But you cannot seem to get enough sleep no matter what you do. Everything you think of during the day is sleeping when you should focus on school or work instead.

You feel comfortable with the desire to sleep and take naps during the day, but then you feel guilty. You think other things are more important and just keep thinking that you are lazy. But you are not lazy and your crazy schedule shows it. So what is happening?

If this sounds like you, you probably suffer from a sleep disorder called idiopathic hypersomnia. If not diagnosed, you can have uncontrollable sleep attacks during the day, which can be very dangerous for your safety and for the safety of others, too.
Fortunately, idiopathic hypersomnia is an easily treatable disease. For starters, avoid caffeinated beverages like coffee and soda, take up a balanced diet and do some physical activity on a regular basis.

However, if you do all these things and they still do not seem to help, you may need to find other solutions to improve your condition. You probably need medication to treat your idiopathic hypersomnia and modafinil is probably the answer for you.

Idiopathic hypersomnia and modafinil are like two peas in a pod. Modafinil is a medication designed to stimulate the response of the brain, causing a sensation of alertness. Modafinil (and its brand counterparts, Provigil) is used to treat a variety of sleep disorders.

Scientists did extensive research on idiopathic hypersomnia and modafinil in the 1980s and finally recommended modafinil for the treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia in 1988.

Modafinil has proven to be an effective course of treatment against idiopathic hypersomnia and also has very few side effects. It is aimed at very specific areas of the brain and a pill remains active in the body for over 15 hours. Other sleep medications need to be administered repeatedly throughout the day. Modafinil has been used to treat idiopathic hypersomnia for years, the worst side effects being headaches. These can be annoying, but it’s all better than having heart palpitations and being irritated because you cannot sleep while everyone else can.

Visit your doctor if you think you are suffering from idiopathic hypersomnia. He is in a position to determine whether you have idiopathic hypersomnia and whether modafinil may be an effective course of treatment for you. Your doctor will also be able to give you more options for treating your condition and can probably give you tips regarding the type of diet and exercise that could help to alleviate this problem.

So do not suffer through another day with an uncontrollable urge to sleep. Take control over your life and your idiopathic hypersomnia. See your doctor today because there is so much more to do in life than sleep.

And hey, would not you prefer to spend time with your family and friends rather than sleep? Of course you would!
